Our Story
After living in small NYC apartments and dealing with high rents and the usual constant moving and purchasing of furniture we decided to set out to design furniture that is truly beautiful, simple & affordable, starting out with deciding what items are basics to a home. The BASICS collection was born.It is common knowledge that mass production and flat shipping revolutionized the affordable furniture industry and lowered costs dramatically, but typically the end user is left with the hassle of having to put the items together. What’s worse, once they are put together you are better off not trying to put them apart. This means things break easy, they don’t last, and go straight to a landfill. Not good. In response to this we chose first, to use what we refer to as “true materials”, solid woods, metal, ceramics… etc. Second, all our designs must be able to assemble & disassemble with no tools, and in no more than three simple steps. But our ambitions reach beyond this. We wanted to use our growing network of local & global artisans and collaborate with them to create these pieces. These craftspeople are as important as the pieces themselves, and we hope to continue to promote the wonderful legacy they carry with them, which is important to cherish and maintain. All pieces are stamped by the artisan of choice and will be accompanied by the story behind them, and why they were chosen for each piece
At a time when everything is connected but everyone is more disconnected than ever, we hope to do our part in bringing communities together, bringing praise to old crafts and continuing the fantastic tradition of telling stories.
